Chicago Headline Club Foundation announces Brownlee winner, internship grants

Adam Mahoney, a third-year journalism/sociology major at Northwestern University, is the recipient of the annual Chicago Headline Club Les Brownlee Scholarship, the Headline Club Foundation announced today.

The Foundation also awarded $5,000 grants to two non-profit news start-ups, Block Club Chicago and Injustice Watch.

The Chicago Headline Club is the nation’s largest chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, Sigma Delta Chi.  It is dedicated to improving the quality of journalism and in-depth reporting. Its grants are provided to individuals who demonstrate a commitment to journalism and to accurately communicating the events of our time.

The Chicago Headline Club Foundation annually awards two $5,000 grants designed for journalism students doing unpaid internships in the Chicago area.

The $5,000 Les Brownlee Scholarship is awarded to a Chicago-area journalism student.  Brownlee, the distinguished journalist and longtime educator, served as the first African American president of the Headline Club.
