Watchdog Fund grant for freelance and investigative journalism

Deadline: March 31, 2022

Thanks to the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, investigative reporters facing costs associated with their reporting can apply for the Chicago Headline Club’s $2,500 Investigative Reporting Grant to alleviate those obstacles.

The CHC Investigative Reporting Grant, while primarily reserved for journalists working in the greater Chicago area without the financial backing of a major media organization, is open to all reporters. The grant does not consider grant requests for scholarship, training or legal fees. The grant is awarded to full-time, part-time and freelance journalists for print, broadcast or online reporting. Submissions from non-Chicago area news outlets are welcome as long as the investigative reporting being undertaken
including or directly affects Chicago in whole or part.

Applications must be received by March 31, 2022 with judging in April 2022. Release of the grant award is expected in May 2022.

All requests are reviewed by a Chicago Headline Club Watchdog Committee Chair, who is not a member of the working press and who will not reveal the identity of applicants or the details of your investigative project to any potential competing news organizations.
