Nominations for the 2022 Peter Lisagor Awards are now CLOSED

Nominations for the 46th Annual Peter Lisagor Awards, which recognize Chicago’s best journalism from across the media spectrum, open on Jan. 1, 2023.

Entries needed to be submitted by the final deadline of Feb. 14. There will be no entries accepted after Feb. 14.

Additional information about how to apply and a full list of categories is available here.

This year’s contest includes redesigned divisions and categories which better reflect the modern news environment, making it easier for journalists to submit their best work, no matter what form it takes.

Here’s what’s different: Entries are divided based on the media they use, not the type of outlet which produced them. Our most popular categories are further divided based on newsroom size instead of circulation, providing more chances for smaller outlets. There are also awards for things like social media and public service journalism.

These changes reflect years of feedback from our members, colleagues and past entrants. In total, there are 87 categories in this year’s Lisagors, with awards recognizing not only reporters but also photographers, designers, data scientists, videographers, producers, podcasters and many more.

Hosted by the Chicago Headline Club, one of the largest Society of Professional Journalists chapters in the country, the Lisagors are a unique opportunity for people from across the local news industry to come together, share their work and toast the very best.

While not everyone can win, every dollar from every submission is paid forward to support the future of journalism and journalists in Chicago.

Journalism is vital to our city and our democracy, but it’s often quiet work. The Lisagors are our way of getting loud every year to celebrate everyone who makes it happen. We see you, we thank you and we can’t wait to see what you do next.
