The Chicago Headline Club presents:
A Conversation on Mental Health
Thursday, May 2
6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Columbia College
33 E. Congress Pkwy. Room 101
A frank discussion with first-hand accounts from Chicago luminaries David Axelrod, Clarence Page and Perri Small. The panel will discuss the toll of mental illness, on those who suffer from it and their loved ones. Along with moderator Laura Washington and Dr. Sidney Weissman, they will also examine how the Chicago journalism community can do a better job of covering mental health issues. Has the media coverage of crime, education and social services considered the impact of mental health on those issues? And have journalists shown their ignorance of and insensitivity toward mental illness in reporting on fallen political figures, perpetrators of mass shootings and others who suffer from depression and similar conditions?
