CHC Board Planning Minutes: July 14, 2018

Board of directors planning meeting
Sat. July 14, 2018
President Alejandra Cancino called the meeting to order at 10:20 a.m. Also present: Patrick
Boylan, Jason Martin, Ben Meyerson, Robert Elder, Mike Ewing, Tahman Bradley, Dawn
Rhodes, Stan Zoller, Howard Dubin, Maya Dukmasova, Madhu Krishnamurthy, Suzanne
McBride, Alex Hernandez, Maria Zamudio, Matt Kiefer, Kristen Schorsch and Susan S. Stevens.
Committee signups were the main focus of the meeting. Mike noted that everyone on the board
should consider themselves members of the Membership Committee, headed by President-Elect
Rob. Alejandra proposed a coffee meeting for membership, web, program and Patrick to talk
about marketing and branding.
Ben said he will head the Lisagor Committee. He will call a meeting in September to discuss
categories. Alejandra will check to make sure a May 10 banquet will not conflict with other
groups’ events, such as the BGA and Silver Circle.
Program Committee will work on news literacy events.
Stan said the National High School Journalism conference, which will draw 6,000 to Chicago
this year, needs speakers. Contact him. He will put together a basket of CHC stuff such as mugs
and pens for its auction.
Meeting adjourned at 11:25 a.m. Next board meeting Sept. 7 at Bloomberg.
