Headline Club History: Holiday Book Bash

Chicago is a city with too many authors to count – many current or former journalists. Think of The Front Page by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur and work your way forward.

To celebrate the notables and help sell books by the worthies, the Headline Club staged a Holiday Book Bash two years in a row, in the Novembers of 2005 and 2006. We drew scores of authors and hundreds of book-lovers.

Among the authors: Rick Kogan, Terry Savage, Jim Benes, Steve Bogira, Doug Cummings, Jonathan Eig, Dempsey Travis, John Wasik. Chef and author Rick Bayless did a food demonstration. And the CHC president at the time and organizer of the bashes, Ilyce Glink, offered her own first book for sale.

Too bad we were a little late to snag Hecht and MacArthur for those dates.
