President’s Breakfast & Annual Planning Meeting
June 9, 2007
President Kristin McQueary called the meeting to order in her home.
Present: Kristin, Jason Jedlinski, Howard Dubin, Kathy Catrambone, Bonnie McGrath, Jon Seidel, Buzz Hogan, Lisa Donovan, Nate Hernandez, James Kelleher, Melisa Goh, Jane Hirt, Laura Putre and Susan S. Stevens.
Kristin gave new board members an overview of SPJ and CHC, why we matter, what we do and what we should do. Our chief events are the Lifetime Awards banquet, the Les Brownlee Series, and the Lisagor. Immediate priorities are Brownlee and Lifetime. We need to step up our work on our Driehaus Watchdog Program.
Committee assignments were discussed.
n Jane, Lisa and Melisa will help Program Chair Nate with Lifetime and Lisagor.
n Lisa will work on general programming.
n James and Susan will work on Membership. (Brian Wellner, our membership VP, has accepted a job at the Quad Cities Times.)
n Laura will work on the Social Committee and would like to be a liaison to smaller papers.
n Nate, Jon, Melisa and Abdon Palasch will work on FOI/Public Access with FOI VP Phil Kadner.
n Bonnie will work on Marketing
n Melisa will work on the Web site.
n Jon, Jane and Buzz will work on Students and Scholarships Committee.
By the next meeting, Kristen asks that board members have committees “marinated.” She wants to clean up the committee structure.
Kathy will circulate a contact list.
Note: the next meeting was later scheduled for 12:30 p.m. July 11 at Bloomberg, 111 S. Wacker Drive, Suite 4950; the corner of Wacker and Monroe. RSVP to Kathy no later than 5 p.m. July 6, so all are on the security list.
