CHICAGO HEADLINE CLUB FOUNDATION
Board of Directors meeting
Mon. Oct. 17, 2017

President Stan Zoller called the meeting to order at 3:15 p.m. Also present: Sheila Solomon and Susan S. Stevens, and by phone Diane Monk McClelland, Priscilla Ruth MacDougall, Howard Dubin and Rob Hess.

Minutes for the meetings June 19 and Aug. 14 were approved as written by Susan.

Stan thanked Priscilla for once again opening her home for the summer benefit. The Les Brownlee scholarships have provided a good time for all.

Treasurer’s report: Howard said we had $64,354 as of the end of September. We are owed $3,750 from the CHC for a deposit for next year’s Lisagor dinner.

Scholarships and internships: We agreed to increase the one $3,000 scholarship and two $3,000 internships to $5,000 each. We are asking CHC for $6,000 for the total increase. Susan will do the asking at the November CHC board meeting, since Stan will be absent. We agreed to limit the three –ships to juniors, seniors and graduate students the current year. We will make sure media outlets give the entire amount to the interns.

Social media and electronic donations: Rob reports progress and will confer with Stan off-line. Rob and Howard will investigate soliciting donations via Chase and Bank of America links on such things as EventBrite program announcements. Susan will discuss with CHC Program VP Alejandra Cancino.

Next summer venue: Priscilla said she must stop being hostess after many years. A new venue will be sought. We ruled out Evanston park shelters. Howard offered his home and yard.

Upcoming events: Sheila said City Bureau will have a fundraiser Nov. 2 and Stan said the Chicago Journalists Association dinner will be Nov. 10. City Bureau is a start-up we will explore helping financially. Stan, Sheila and Susan plan to go to the CJA dinner.

Next meeting: 4 p.m. Mon. Nov. 20 by phone.

Meeting adjourned at 3:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Susan S. Stevens, secretary
