Empowering Chicago’s future journalists: $10,000 in grants open for non-profit media internships

In a commitment to fostering the growth of Chicago’s next generation of journalists, we are thrilled to announce the availability of $10,000 in grants for non-profit media internships. This initiative aims to empower aspiring journalists by providing financial support for invaluable hands-on experience with organizations doing important work in the Chicago metro area.

As the media landscape faces enormous financial and political pressures, it is especially critical to invest in developing talented individuals who will shape the future of journalism. These grants are specifically designed to support non-profit media organizations in and around Chicago, enabling them to offer internships that contribute to the professional growth of emerging journalists.

Grant Program Highlights:

  • Financial Support: Two grants of $5,000 to provide substantial financial assistance to non-profit media organizations committed to offering meaningful internships.
  • Professional Development: Interns will gain practical experience, enhance their skills, and receive mentorship from seasoned journalism professionals.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: The program encourages applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds, promoting inclusivity and representation within journalism.
  • Application Process: Non-profit media organizations interested in participating in this program can apply online here. The application deadline is Monday, March 22, 2024. Winners will be notified by early April.
  • Impactful Journalism: By supporting these internships, we aim to contribute to creating a vibrant and inclusive media landscape in Chicago that reflects the diverse voices and stories within the community.
